Bettye Ann (Rutledge) Meek

Bettye Meek, born January 3, 1932, went to be with Jesus on March 8, 2019 at 10 A.M. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eber and Thelma (Britton) Rutledge; siblings, Latriece Harper, Rev. James Rutledge, Jane Draper, Bob Rutledge and Buz Rutledge and son-in-law, John Hubbard. She is survived by her husband of nearly fifteen years, Henry Meek; three children, Linda Hubbard, Jim Powers and Terry Powers; step-daughter, Brenda Schaedler; sisters, Glenda Martin, Sallye McCarty and Nancy Smith and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Bettye will be held 1 P.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Sardis Cemetery near Jewett, Texas. Rev. Ray Payne will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Tuesday, March 12th at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.

Bettye Ann Meek was born one of nine children in Ropesville, Texas and grew up in the west Texas area. Following her marriage to her first husband, Bettye moved to Houston and then to California while he was stationed overseas in the U.S. Navy. After his return, they moved back to Lubbock. Bettye had also resided in Dallas and finally settled in Buffalo in 1985. Throughout that time she worked as a secretary for various employers but gave that up to care for her grandchildren when they were born.

Bettye was a devout Christian and loved her Lord. She was a faithful and active member of Ephesus Baptist Church where she was a founding member of Women’s Aglow, a member of the choir and involved in the prison ministry. She was also active in Meals on Wheels for over twenty-five years.

Bettye took great joy in traveling in the R.V. with her husband. She also loved wildflowers and hummingbirds. She was a kind person who loved people and also a good mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home.
