With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alan Beard, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and good friend to many. Born in Pasadena, Texas to loving parents, Curtis and Betty Beard, Alan spent most of his childhood and adult life here in Buffalo. He married his sweetheart Rhonda Taylor in 1982 and this past September marked their 37th wedding anniversary.
Alan was immensely loved by family and friends, but his nieces and nephews (and any child or teenager really) especially adored him. He was dubbed the “ultimate fun haver” and he was nothing short of the all time favorite. He could make the shyest child giggle, play and just feel comfortable. His legendary antics and dry wit kept adults on their toes and laughing as well.
An avid outdoorsman, Alan was the picture of adventure. There weren’t many outside activities he couldn’t master including volleyball, hiking, biking, water skiing and snow skiing. While still in high school, Alan even earned his pilots license. He and Rhonda spent many happy vacations at nearby lakes as well as camping at state and national parks. The two also traveled to tropical locations abroad and enjoyed experiencing different cultures and environments. Alan always supported the Houston Astros and was a generational Texas A&M fan. He and his dad loved attending the Aggie games from the time he was a little boy. And, one of his favorite things was simply relaxing at their home nestled in the peaceful woods. He spent many hours with Rhonda watching for birds, wildlife and enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Alan lived his life with solid character, true loyalty and being a man we all admired and loved. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Rhonda Taylor Beard; father-in-law Marcus Taylor; sister-in-law Kim Hawkins and preceded in death by his mother-in-law Pat Taylor. He is also survived by his parents Curtis and Betty Beard; sister, Julie Dawson; brother, Sam Beard and wife Wendy. His nieces and nephews include the following — nephew Drew Dawson; niece Allison Dawson Self, husband Tanner and children Dalton and Rylan; niece Jessica Beard Ezell, husband Bradley and children Brynlee and Jase; nephew Logan Beard, wife Gianna and children Daniel and Samuel Alan; nephew Riley Conn; niece Peyten Conn and son Eli Wilkerson; nephew Travis Taylor, wife Jessica and daughter Tori; niece Hannah Hawkins; niece Devin Hawkins and husband Johan Canales; nephew Brody Hawkins and children Makayla, Peyton and Aubree.
A graveside celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 1 P.M., Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, Texas. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend a lunch/visitation immediately afterwards at the Buffalo First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center.
