Althea Elizabeth Jones, 80, passed away peacefully September 26, 2022 in Baytown, Texas. She was born November 20, 1941 in Palestine, Texas, the only child of Roy Thomas & Dorothy Lee (Watts) Rhone.
Althea was an accomplished seamstress and crocheter. It brought her great joy sewing clothing for her children, and later her grandchildren. Althea also enjoyed baking. She and her late husband, Fred, owned and operated two eating establishments that soon became the local hangout for many generations of Buffalo residents throughout the years. Later in life, Althea enjoyed shopping and talking on the phone to friends and family. She studied the Bible daily and loved teaching from the Bible, as well. Althea had lived in Buffalo for the past fifty years, coming from Palestine and was a member of Miracle Christian Center, Buffalo, Texas and Cowboy Heritage Church, Freestone County, Texas.
Althea was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband of forty-nine years, Fred W. Jones; son, Michael W. Jones; granddaughter, Sierra Clardy; great grandson, Coyt Jones; parents-in-law, Fred R. and Hattie Jones; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Eppes; brother-in-law, Walter Harter and special friends, Dale, Howard and Claye Pope.
Left to cherish Althea's memory are three children, Bobby Rhone & wife, Melanie of Berryville, AR, Lisa Kay Pope & husband, Tommy of Lake Limestone and Stacye Hollifield & husband, Scott of Baytown; ten grandchildren, Bradley Ezell & wife, Jessica of Buffalo, Heather Idlett & husband, Steve of Teague, Jordan Ezell of Dallas, Justin Jones & wife, Tara of Buffalo, Shayna Brown & husband, Michael of The Woodlands, Shaylee Clardy of Baytown, Seth Hollifield of Baytown, Lindsay Witt & husband, Eric of Deer Lodge, TN, Nykyta Snow & husband, Chip of Excelsior Springs, MO and John Hollifield of Greenville, TN; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Jase, Finley, Abby, Britton, Hank, Leighton, Logan, Lane, Maisy, Adaline, Hollyn, Bryant and Rhett; sister-in-law, Charlsie Harter of Buffalo; special friend, Thelma Pope of Teague and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services honoring Althea's life will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery in rural Leon County. A brief visitation will take place Saturday, October 1st, from 1 P.M. to service time at the funeral home.
