Funeral services for Billy Gene Carmichael, 83, of Buffalo have been set for 2 PM, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. Burial will follow in the Buffalo City Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home.
Billy Carmichael was born in Buffalo on July 6, 1934. His parents were Raymond and Vera (Holland) Carmichael. He was a lifelong resident of Buffalo. He served his country in the U.S. Army. An interesting note to his service: during the Cuba Missile Crisis in the early 1960’s, Billy, who was a member of the Army Reserves, was called to active duty. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo. He worked as an auto mechanic in Buffalo. However, his family said that he was a man who could do many things such as carpentry, farming and repair work. He was an honest man and expected honesty from others. He was also a notorious prankster and many stories of his exploits have been told through the years. Billy was happiest when working and when spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law, Bobbie Carmichael; his uncle, Earl Carmichael and his step-son, Stephen Louis Webb and Stephen’s son, Josh Webb. Billy passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.
Surviving family includes his wife, Shirley Carmichael of Buffalo; son, Billy Wayne Carmichael (Dan McGowan) of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Rhonda Carmichael (Sherry) of Troy, Texas; step-daughters, Carol Webb of Buffalo and Sharon Webb Copeland (John) of Buffalo; brother, Joe Daniel Carmichael of Buffalo and his children, Joe Robert Carmichael and Donna Carmichael Jordan; step-daughter-in-law, Sandy Fox Webb of Palestine; grandchildren, Tammy, Cindy, Kevin, Katy B., Nathan, Katy G. and Cash and numerous great grandchildren, extended family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Pate, Jason Jones, Kevin Burns, Nathan Webb, Kenneth Hullum and Hank Snyder. Honorary pallbearers are Willie Long, Joe Robert Carmichael, John Copeland, George Parsons, Sydney Hullum, Billy Copeland and Homer Selman.
