Doris Elizabeth Dyess, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away on March 16, 2024, in Franklin, Texas at 86 years. She was born August 17, 1937 in Carrollton, Illinois to Arthur "Art" and Ruby (Driver) Carter. Doris dedicated most of her career to serving as a bookkeeper in trucking, oil field equipment and airlines, late in her career at Continental Airlines she became a uniform agent where she fitted and ordered uniforms for agents in Houston and multiple other cities. After retirement, she held official and unofficial jobs in the local VFW axuilliary. Her final showcasing her diligence and commitment to her work.
For more than two decades, Doris called Buffalo home, immersing herself in the warmth of the community. Her presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was an active member of the local VFW Auxiliary, the EE Club, and Military Families of Leon County where she built lasting friendships and contributed to causes that she held dear.
In her leisure time, Doris found solace in pursuing her passion for sewing and quilting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail. Her talent was unmatched, and her creations will continue to be cherished by those fortunate enough to have received them.
Doris was preceded in death by both of her parents; husbands, William "Bill" Hodgerson, Gene Schlup and Dean Dyess; infant daughter, Kathy Joann Hodgerson, granddaughter, Amy Baxter, brother, Bill Carter and daughter-in-law, Gloria Hodgerson.
She is survived by her children, Carl Hodgerson of Porter and Nancy Trainham (husband, Murl, Sr.) of Laurel Hill, FL; grandchildren, Heather Johnson, April Henson, Neil Trainham, Murl Trainham, Jr. and Brandy Trainham; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Doris is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and extended and "adopted" family, who will all carry on her legacy of kindness and grace.
A celebration of Doris' life will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas, where friends and family will come together to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life. Pastor Dwaine Woodard, of Miracle Christian Center, Buffalo, Texas, will officiate the service.
Doris may have left this world, but her spirit and impact will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
