On November 15, 2023, Eddie Earl Lack Sr., a devoted family man, dedicated Air Force veteran, and longtime resident of Leon County, peacefully passed away at the age of 89 at his home in Oakwood, Texas. Eddie was born on February 27, 1934, in Etowah, Arkansas, to William Edison & Hazel (Tatum) Lack, and was the epitome of strength, honor, and compassion throughout his remarkable life.
Eddie's love for his family knew no bounds. He treasured spending time with his loved ones and was their steadfast pillar of support. Eddie is survived by his beloved children, Cheryl Corby of Oakwood, Eddie "Ed" Lack, Jr. (Pam) of Ft. Worth, William Lack of Oakwood, and Debra Groff (Michael) of The Woodlands; twelve cherished grandchildren; as well as thirty great-grandchildren. The bond he shared with his family was unbreakable, and his memory will forever be etched in their hearts.
In his younger years, Eddie served his country with great pride and dedication in the United States Air Force. Rising through the ranks, he retired with the esteemed title of Master Sergeant after twenty years of honorable service. Eddie's commitment to his fellow servicemen and his unwavering loyalty to his country were the hallmarks of his military career.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Eddie continued to serve his community as a Sheriff's Deputy for Leon and Anderson Counties. His unwavering dedication to maintaining law and order was admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
In addition to his military and law enforcement roles, Eddie was an active member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Keechi, where he found solace, strength, and spiritual guidance. He held his faith close to his heart and was a living testament to the values he embraced.
A man of few words but with a heart full of love, Eddie had resided in Leon County for the past forty-five years, having moved from Galveston, Texas. His gentle nature, warm smile, and ability to lend a helping hand will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
