Edward Joseph Kowis, Sr., age 78, passed away December 2, 2022 in Waco, Texas. He was born to George F. & Wanda (Coulson) Kowis in Houston, Texas on March 23, 1944. Ed served his country in the United States Navy and retired from Southwestern Bell. He had been a resident of Houston his entire life until twenty-five years ago when he made a permanent move to his weekend home near Buffalo, Texas. It was during this time that Ed fostered a love for ranching, hunting and fishing. Ed enjoyed participating as a member of The Salt Grass Trail Ride and Texas Cattleman's Trail Ride for over thirty-five years. Most recently, he was a member of TRBHC (Trailriders of the Bandera Hill Country).
Ed was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, George Kowis, Jr. and Ron Kowis and son-in-law, James Combs.
Surviving family members include wife, Mary Kay Kowis of Buffalo; sons, Edward Joseph Kowis, Jr. (Shawna) of Buffalo, Chris Kowis (Phyllis) of Washington State; daughters, Heather Combs of Gary TX and Bobbie Kowis (Drew Steffe) of Colorado; sisters, Bertha Brophy of Houston, Claudette Shirley of Montgomery TX and Margaret Leitko of Lago Vista TX, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Ed's life will be held 2 P.M. to 4 P.M., Saturday, January 28, 2022 at the VFW Post 2427 located at 14408 Alice Rd, Tomball Texas 77377.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Bufalo, Texas.
