Florence Pate, age 80, of the Flo Community in Leon County, Texas passed away February 13, 2020 in Bryan, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held 1 P.M., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Calvary Christian Center near Oakwood, Texas. Pastor Jack Smith will officiate the service. Mrs. Pate will be laid to rest in Brushy Cemetery. The Pate family will receive friends Monday, February 17th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home.
Florence Lee (Neal) Pate was born June 23, 1939 in Buffalo, Texas to Jesse James & Lestil Lois (Moore) Neal. She married Verner Pate June 18, 1955. They made their home in Houston, Texas for forty years where Florence worked as a devoted homemaker. She was an excellent seamstress and made all of her children’s clothing, as well as a superb cook.
In 1995, Florence & Verner moved to the Flo Community where Florence continued to take care of her family. However, this time she was able to raise her grandchildren. She loved having her family all together. Florence’s family considered her the Pate family Matriarch—the “glue” which held everyone together. Florence enjoyed country life and especially loved to sit on her porch observing the goings on of life. She was a devoted member of Flo Community Baptist Church and spent a great deal of time studying her Bible.
Florence was preceded in death by both of her parents; three brothers; two sisters and grandchildren. She is survived by husband of nearly 65 years, Verner Pate of Buffalo; children, Pamela Stephenson of Humble, Verna Krottinger (Jesse) of Houston, Penny Milam (Ricky) of Palacios, Anthony Pate (Denise) of Houston, Rebecca Stokes (Bennie) of Buffalo and Jimmy Pate (Vickie) of Kosse and grandchildren, Shane, Ricky, Amanda, Angela, Jeffery, Stephen, Brian, Allen, Zach, Miki, Michael, Candace & Stephanie. Florence is also survived by twenty-five great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.
