James Coker, age 78, passed away May 14, 2022, in Bryan, Texas following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. A funeral service honoring his life will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, located at 249 Humphries Road in Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Alan Grisham, pastor of First Baptist Church, Buffalo, will officiate the service. A graveside service will be held 3 P.M., that afternoon at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, located at 13747 Eastex Freeway in Houston, Texas, with Chaplain Marty Ballesteros officiating.
James Harold Coker was born August 27, 1943, in Mansfield, Louisiana to Harold & Gladys Louise (Phipps) Coker. He grew up in Houston and was a member of Shady Dale Baptist Church. James graduated from Smiley High School in 1961 and married his sweetheart, Leaminda Harrelson April 12, 1962. They raised their family in Kingwood, Texas where they were members of Forest Cove Baptist Church. In 1987, James and Leaminda purchased land with a cabin in Leon County where they made numerous weekend visits. Following James' retirement in 1999 after 31 years with Shell Oil Company, he and Leaminda moved to Buffalo and built their current home. James enjoyed his retirement years ranching and taking care of his cattle, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses. James was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Buffalo.
James was preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving family members include his wife, Leaminda Coker of Buffalo; son, Jimmy Coker (Lisa) of New Caney; daughter, Tracey Deupree (Bill) of Bryan; sister, Linda Stapleton Thomas (Kenneth) of Magnolia; grandchildren, Jared (wife Jenna), Braden, Sam, Cameron, Carley & Cassidy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers: Jared Deupree, Braden Deupree, Sam Deupree, Cameron Coker, Blaine Morgan, Cody Stapleton, Luke McDuffie, and Cort Stapleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honor James may be made to the First Baptist Church in Buffalo, the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation, Donation Processing, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 (https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate), or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.
