Janet Evelyn "Jan" Garland

Janet Evelyn Garland, 96, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023, at home with her loving family. She was born May 2, 1926, in Cambridge, Ohio. Janet married Hines Garland, of Buffalo, in 1954, and they lived in the family home that they made together for the rest of their lives. She is survived by three children: Jon Garland (wife Deborah) of Buffalo, Jerry Garland (wife Sherry) of Buffalo, and Leah Elliott (husband Terry) of Albuquerque. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Amber Joy Cruz, Justin Garland, Ashlee Garland, Kellye Brown, and Camille McCarty. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Hines Garland, parents Frank and Mabel Knight, her brothers, Donald and Edwin Knight, as well as her son, Gene Garland and daughter-in-law, Nancy Garland.

Janet was a loving mother, hardworking homemaker, and impactful teacher. Most people remember her from her being at their door or from having a friendly conversation at the grocery store. They likely remember her warm smile, genuine concern, and her enthusiasm for sharing her faith and love of the Bible with others. From a very early age, Janet, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, was devoted to teaching the Bible’s message of hope to her neighbors and everyone she met. She truly loved people and showed it wherever she went. Janet was deeply loved by her family, friends, and community.

The Garland family would like to especially thank Jan's caregivers and hospice team for their excellent care.

A memorial service will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Buffalo, Texas. Services will be conducted by Larry Reina.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.
