Jeraldine "Jeree" Vercher Harkins

What a day of rejoicing it was on July 24, 2021, when Jeraldine "Jeree" Vercher Harkins joined her parents, Claude and Lois Teague; her daughter, Judy Vercher; and granddaughter, Erin (Vercher) Gee in a joyous reunion in Heaven! Don’t you know there were as many tears of happiness shed there as there are tears of sadness shed here on Earth in her passing!

Jeree was born on December 3, 1930, in Graham, Texas. She was one smart cookie, graduating salutatorian from high school at the age of fifteen. She married Richard at sixteen years old and had two children, Johnny and Judy, whom she adored. Jeree taught elementary school, worked with Richard in his dry-cleaning business, and studied business at University of Houston. After Richard passed away, Jeree eventually opened her own successful business in College Station, Silver Station jewelry store, which she owned and operated for ten years. It was there that the first boy that ever kissed her, Myron Harkins, walked in to reconnect with his high school friend. They married in 1998 and they greatly enjoyed their retirement together traveling, living on the lake, fishing, and talking as only life-long friends can do. Most evenings involved a clinking of glasses with an adult beverage and a toast of “to you and me, baby”. She was quickly embraced by the entire Harkins clan, and she loved them all in return.

Jeree enjoyed reading, westerns, mysteries, bird watching, cooking, baking, sewing, shopping, and most of all, being with her loved ones. Most knew her as Jeree or Aunt Deanie, but her grandchildren will always remember and cherish her as their Grandma Boo-Boo.

Along with Jeree's beloved family members previously mentioned, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Vercher and second husband, Myron Harkins.

Jeree is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Donna Vercher of Buffalo; her brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Glenda Teague; her seven grandchildren, Brooke Damico of Buffalo, Lacie Roberts of Scurry, Brady Webster of Bastrop, John Webster of Watauga, Jessica Overand of Buffalo, and Kathryn Thomas of Sulphur Springs. She leaves behind a legacy of fourteen great-grandchildren, Brenna, Mattison, Neeley, Cash, Harleigh, Jorja, Canyon, Thomas, Soaryn, Aven, Aubrey, Henry, Vivien, and Wilder. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nelda Ruth Taylor of Buffalo and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Jeree is a great example of perseverance, relentlessness, consistency, toughness, and loving by action not just words. She taught so many of us so many wonderful things and her legacy and memories will be cherished always.

A celebration of Jeree's life will be held 11 A.M., Monday, August 9, 2021 at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas. She will be laid to rest in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, Texas.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.
