Joyce Ann Blair

Joyce Blair, age 74, of Jewett, Texas passed away peacefully at her home September 16, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family. A celebration of her life will be held 3 P.M., Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Ray Payne, pastor of Ephesus Baptist Church, will officiate the service. Following the service, Joyce will be laid to rest in Concord Cemetery, Concord, Texas. A time of visitation and fellowship will take place Friday, September 22nd from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Joyce Ann Blair was born March 26, 1949 in Weslaco, Texas to parents, Thomas Hull & Effie Florine (Smith) Fowler.

Joyce grew up in Cement, Oklahoma where she played basketball in high school and also played competitively as an adult. She attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser for over forty years. Her career began in Oklahoma and continued in Texas where she developed lifelong friends and touched many lives along the way. She loved to play games, especially Scrabble. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening and was a member of a quilting club and a garden club. Following retirement, she moved back to this area and was able to spend more time with family. Family holidays, vacations and visiting relatives with her dear, cousin and friend, Charlene Ezell were highlights of her life. She cherished the time spent on beaches, cruise ships and family gatherings. Joyce had close relationships with many nieces and nephews and loved them all dearly. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an awesome Mamaw/Gigi to them.

Joyce was preceded in death by both of her parents and sister, Sandra Lee Roberts.

Surviving family members include husband, Walter Lynn Blair of Jewett, Texas; brother, Thomas Harrison Fowler and wife, Peggy of Pinckneyville, Illinois; two sons, Kelvin Thornton and wife, Becky of Jewett, Texas and Kurt Thornton of Livingston, Texas; step-son, Gerald Blair and wife, Vickie of Spurger, Texas; three grandchildren, Jordan Breeding and fiancée, Matt McFarren of Denver, Colorado, Taylor Winstead and husband, Ryan of Marquez, Texas and Jack Thornton of Jewett, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Rhett Winstead of Marquez, Texas; many cousins, nieces and nephews to whom she was simply, "Aunt Joyce," as well as very special friend, Irene Fuller.
