Kristopher Duane Barnett

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Kristopher Duane Barnett, born on July 9, 1985, in Teague, Texas. Kris, as his friends knew him, was a "country boy" through and through, working the land as a ranch hand and calling Leon County his lifelong home.

Kris was the son of Virgil Wayne and Teneta (Laningham) Barnett, and graduated from Oakwood High School. Kris loved the simple joys of life - hunting, fishing, riding horses, and running his equipment. You could always count on him for a good laugh, as he had a hilarious way of casually picking on those around him.

Kris was preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving family members include daughter, Karlie Hughes of Eureka, Kansas; son, Hagan Hughes of Eureka, Kansas; siblings, Anna Williams of Buffalo, Jasper Barnett (Carmen) of Lovelady, William Barnett (Melissa) of Oakwood, and Renee Bean (Rodney) of Kirvin; step-mother, Debbie Barnett of Buffalo; lifelong friend, Katy Nagel of Buffalo; and nieces and nephews, Randy Jones, Montey Jones, Charlie Jones, Kindall Jones, Nicole Jones, Robert Jones, Hope Hall, Hannah Barnett, Thomas Schultz, Jr Barnett, Melanie Barnett, Cody Barnett, Kaeley Bynum, Tanner Bean, and Yancey Bean.   Also surviving Kris are a host of extended family and close friends.

Kris passed away September 10, 2024, at his family home in Flo, Texas. A graveside service honoring his life will be held 10 A.M., Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Virgil Wayne Barnett Family Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to come together and bid farewell at his visitation held at Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas, September 19, 2024, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.
