Lawrence was born in Dallas, Texas on October 02, 1939 to Maurice and Nona Hester. He was raised and graduated from Buffalo High School. He attended Sam Houston State University. Lawrence met and married Judy Marsh Hester on August 10, 1963. Lawrence became a Dallas Firefighter and was one of the youngest Battalion Chiefs of the Dallas Fire Department. He retired in 1980 after twenty years of service. Following his retirement Lawrence went to work for Nucor Steel for the next seventeen years. He then was employed by TDCJ for ten years. Lawrence was a faithful member, as well as, an Elder at Miracle Christian Center. Lawrence’s greatest joy was serving the Lord and his three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He loved spending time and just doing little things for them as they grew up. He took up motorcycle riding at the ripe old age of 70. He was an avid rider, averaging 100 miles a day, and loved when the weather was perfect so he could get out and ride. He loved his Harley and was known to ride up to four hours away just to eat a hamburger. On Friday, he took off that morning on a ride because it was perfect weather and little did we know that on that day it was so beautiful that Jesus decided He was ready for Lawrence to come home.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Nona Hester and by his brother, Lonnie Hester.
