Linda Jean (Cooper) West was born May 23, 1948 in Houston, Texas, the first of five girls to Louie Gene & Margaret “Billie” (Spence) Cooper. She lived most of her life in Leon County. She attended Jacksonville Baptist College for two years before taking a break to start a family. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in teaching from Sam Houston State University, where she graduated with highest honors. She went on to earn a Master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, all while raising two young boys. Linda taught public school in Buffalo, Texas for thirty-three years, sixteen of those years in third and fourth grades and seventeen years teaching English in the Jr. High School. Linda worked hard for her education and was very proud of her accomplishments, but she was most proud of her two boys and her grandchildren.

Linda was a very loving and caring person and was always doing special things for her family and friends. She was a very gifted artist in many areas. She was a talented piano player and enjoyed working with ceramics, paints and various other items. She often used her talent to make gifts for her family and friends during the holidays, many of which are still treasured to this day. Linda once taught a ceramics class out of her home that helped fund her college tuition. For many years, Linda was an active member of First Baptist Church in Buffalo where she taught Sunday school and served as a sponsor for numerous Jr. High girls’ activities through the years. Linda leaves many wonderful memories and a lasting impact on the lives of her family and others that she touched through the years.

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Louie Gene Cooper; grandmother, Margaret (Ma) Spence; and nephew, Joshua Moore. She is survived by mother, Margaret “Billie” Cooper of the Flo Community; sons, Jeremy West of Buffalo and Jason West of Bryan; sisters, Glenda (Randall) Ward of Palestine, Rose (Mike) Pate of Centerville, Deborah (Tom) Moore of Dew and Rhonda Cooper of the Flo Community; and grandchildren, Shelby West (Stephen Capps) and Austin West; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other loving family members and friends.

Services will be officiated by Wesley Henson. Pallbearers will be Austin West, Stephen Capps, Shane Pate, and Brandon Pate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Ward, Logan Bell, Eric Bell, and Jonathan Moore.
