A memorial service honoring the life of Dean Johnson, 87, of Oakwood, will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Richard Dahlgren, pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate the service with presentations by the V.F.W. and Buffalo Masonic Lodge.

Merkel Dean Johnson was born June 18, 1934 in Bogata, Texas to CW & Loneita (Hutsen) Johnson. He worked in retail management for various locations most of his life and realized his dream of owning his own gun shop following retirement. Dean had lived in the Oakwood area for the past seven years, coming from Trinity, Texas and was a member of the Trinity V.F.W. and Buffalo Masonic Lodge #554. In his younger years, Dean had enjoyed flying small engine planes and country music dancing. As of late he liked accompanying his daughter to shop at garage sales and eating out a various favorite restaurants.

Dean passed away January 2, 2022 at his home. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving family members include son, Robert Johnson of Washington; daughter, Sheila (Mike) Windham of Oakwood; brothers, Bill Johnson of Sevierville, TN, Charlie Johnson of Riverside and Donald Johnson of Crockett; sisters, Barbara Baylor of Conroe and Deloris Williams of Fayetteville, TN, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas.
