Robert "Wayne" Bennett

Robert Wayne Bennett, 76, from the Flo community, passed peacefully from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on November 14, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Wayne was born July 13, 1944 in Galveston, Texas to parents, Thomas Wayne & Helen Lucille (Whitman) Bennett. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned the Purple Heart medal. He was shot and wounded during a night attack and received other commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.

He worked for Brown and Root in Houston, Texas for twenty-five years. He then moved to enjoy the simple country life in Oakwood, Texas. He worked for the Centerville Nursing Home, there he met and married his wife, Kathie. Wayne would say his most beloved job was working as an Oakwood ISD Bus Driver. He loved the children he cared for and served as a positive role model and mentor. Wayne never met a stranger. He was a kind, caring, compassionate Christian that helped everyone he met. He was a member of the Miracle Christian Church in Buffalo, Texas.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Kathie; his son, Brian Bennett from Houston; step-sons, Daryl Mayse from Grandview and Toby Loftin and Kaleb Elder from Tarrant County; his daughters, Kim Petroski from Houston and Kassie Mayse-Bennett; step-daughter, Patricia Mayse from Oakwood; and his grandchildren, Blair and Sydney Bennett, Hunter Petroski and Gregory, Patty and Lane Moreno. Also, special lifelong friends, Sam Bradshaw, VJ Maresh and Thom & Nelda Zachary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Bennett and his brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Bennett from Galveston, Texas.

The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo Texas. Wayne will be interred at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas with military funeral honors at 12:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 19, 2020. A brief visitation will take place prior to the service from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. May God Bless You and Keep You! The Bennett Family
