Samuel Austin "Sammy" Richmond died on June 13, 2024 at his ranch in Oakwood, Texas. He was sixty-seven years old.
Sammy was born on November 15, 1956, in Palestine, Texas to Glenn and Ovilla "Billie" Richmond. He was the youngest of the family and remained Billie's baby until her passing. Sammy grew up in Oakwood, Texas where he played football for the high school team.
Sammy met the love of his life, Cassie, at a dance hall in Centerville on Memorial Day weekend of 1979, and married her a few months later on November 17, 1979. It was a classic country boy meets city girl romance that lasted for over forty-five years. They had their girls, Chere, Samantha, and Randa first, then finally got their son when they adopted Phoenix.
As a young adult Sammy worked in construction around Houston before starting his life-long career in the oil industry. He was a well control specialist, much like John Wayne's character in the movie "Hellfighters." He traveled the world, spending time in Kuwait after Operation Desert Storm, in the North Sea off the coast of Norway, and Columbia where he discovered a love of strong coffee.
While Sammy's day job was the oil field, his heart was his ranch. He bought the original property in 1989, and built a lake with repurposed material as the base of the pier. It quickly became the family spot for swimming, fishing, and occasional camping trips. S&C Richmond Ranch, LLC continued to grow and last year Sammy became a full-time cattle rancher.
Sammy was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Edward Richmond; his beloved mother, Billie Richmond; and his brother, Daniel Keith Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine "Cassie" Richmond; his daughters, Renee Chere Ayers and her husband, Christopher, Samantha Nichole Richmond and Randa Marie Madero and her husband, Patricio; his son, Phoenix Austin Richmond; grandchildren, Pato, David, Mayte, Parker, Maria, and Mason; his brother, Billy Glenn Richmond and his wife, Marcia; his sisters, Venita Anne Bartmass and Sheila Gail Atkins and her husband, Jim; his sister-in-law, Patricia Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.
