Selma Kay Short was born November 30, 1932 in Buffalo, Texas. Her parents were Bennie & Inez (Sammons) Recknor. She graduated from Buffalo High School at fifteen years of age. Soon after, she married her husband, Bennie Short. It wasn’t too long before his military service sent him overseas. Upon his return Selma & Bennie began their married life together. Selma lived most of her life in Dallas, retiring from the shipping/receiving business as a bookkeeper. She had worked numerous jobs during her life including, helping in her husband’s business and working as a swimming instructor.

Selma loved working in her flower beds. She could grow anything and took joy in sharing her flowers with her friends and family. She would often take cuttings that she had grown and give them to her children and grandchildren. They would later admit that it didn’t take long for them to kill the new plant, and that they just couldn’t take care of it as good as Selma did. Selma also enjoyed genealogy research and had much of her family traced back to before the United States of America was a country. She was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and had received her certificate from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Selma passed away January 19, 2018 in her home. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Bennie Short; son, David Short and an infant son. Surviving family members include daughter, Sherrina K. Garner of Buffalo; grandchildren, Michael Garner (Heather) of Prosper, Brandy Prince of The Colony, Jimmy Short of Buffalo and Cyndi Weaver (Todd) of Quinlan and great grandchildren, Austin, Grant & Sydney Garner and Eric & Ryan Prince.
