Thomas Junior Vann was born October 7, 1934 near Buffalo, Texas in the Cedar Creek Community. His parents were Joseph “Jodie” & Theo Alyne (Davis) Vann. Thomas grew up in Buffalo and was a 1953 graduate of Buffalo High School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1957 from Sam Houston State University.
Thomas began his career as a teller for a savings and loan company. Through the years, thanks to his dedication and meticulous attention to detail, he climbed the corporate ladder and was named Assistant Vice President of a savings and loan company. Following his time in the finance industry, Thomas worked various jobs, including maintenance for Klein United Methodist Church. This job was a great fit for him because he was able to go at his own pace and keep his own hours.
Thomas loved to sing and was a member of the Statesmen Barbershop Chorus, as well as his church choir. In earlier years he enjoyed collecting coins and still held an extensive coin collection. Thomas’ favorite activity was working in his yard. He took great joy in having the most manicured lawn in his subdivision—using his skill of meticulous attention to detail to make sure every blade of grass was trimmed and edged to it’s proper length.
Thomas and his wife, Kay, had lived in the Houston area for fifty-seven years before moving back to Buffalo three years ago to be near their daughter. They were dedicated and active members of Park Place United Methodist Church, Tomball United Methodist Church, Klein United Methodist Church and their childhood church, Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church. Thomas was also an active participant in “Methodist Men.”
Thomas passed away December 31, 2018 in Fairfield, Texas. He is preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving family members include wife and high school sweetheart, Lisbeth “Kay” Vann of Buffalo; son, Thomas Keith Vann (Toni) of Hockley; daughter, Donna Kathleen Vann of Buffalo; brothers, James Bascom Vann of Porter and Ben Vann (Karen) of Columbus, OH and sister, Linda Jean Furl (Barton) of Waco. He is also survived by grandchildren, Thomas Keith Vann, Jr. of Jonesboro, AR, Ginger Grace Vann of Nacogdoches, Maurice George Vann of Lubbock and Jay Ralston Vann of Hockley.
A visitation for Thomas will be held from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. A memorial service will take place Thursday, January 3rd at 11 A.M. at Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Buffalo. Rev. Paula Behrens, pastor of the church, will officiate the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.
