William Ervin Cummings, Jr., affectionately known as Coach Cummings, left this world unexpectedly on September 18, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on September 21, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, he dedicated his life to the noble profession of teaching and coaching, inspiring countless students and athletes throughout his career in several schools across Texas.
Coach Cummings earned a Bachelor's Degree from Pan Am University and a Master's Degree from Baylor. His passion for education was matched only by his deep love for his family and the children he taught. He was a beacon of positivity in the lives he touched, embodying the spirit of dedication and care that defined his journey as an educator.
Bill's life was enriched by the simple yet profound joys he cherished. He found peace in nature, enjoying fishing, mowing the yard, and gardening—activities that kept him busy and fulfilled. His love for sports extended beyond the classroom, as he could often be found watching his grandchildren play sports or engrossed in any football game on television. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Baby, who was a cherished companion through the seasons of his life.
Bill leaves behind a heartbroken family who will forever hold dear the memories they created together. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly (Harris) Cummings of Buffalo; his sons, Chris Cummings and his wife, Phyllis, and Jason Cummings and his wife, Cherie, all from Waco; his daughters, Dana Taylor and her husband, Steven, of Houston, and Nikki Cummings of Buffalo. They will each carry his legacy in their hearts. Bill was a proud grandfather to Bradley and his wife, Cady, Kimberly and her husband, Reed, Haley, Kaity and her husband, Nathan, Jace, Jack, Ty and his wife, Haley, William, and Brooke and her husband, Trae. He was especially blessed with great-grandchildren Jaxon, Brynlee, Brystal, Cannon, Levi, and Summer, whose laughter and energy brought him immense joy.
Coach Cummings is joined in eternal rest with his mother, Frances; a step-father; brother, Bobby Cummings, and great-granddaughter, Karsyn Averi, who will surely greet him with open arms.
